Faculty of Culturology and Socio-cultural Activity has been in existence for more than 30 years. In this period more than 10 thousand graduates have been trained. They work in all the regions of Belarus. Today about 700 students study at the Faculty.

The training of specialists is carried out in the most prospective areas and directions in demand.

Specialty – culturology (study of culture).

Specialization – management in social and cultural area.

Qualification – expert and manager in culture.

The educational process in the specialization “management in socio-cultural sphere” is oriented on deep humanitarian and culturological human resource development in accordance with the world educational and professional standards. The graduates gain knowledge in management, marketing and advertising, economy and entrepreneurship, domestic and foreign law, foreign economic activity, information and computer science, foreign languages, as well as technologies in organizing socio-cultural and leisure activities in the area of culture.

The training of culture experts and managers in socio-cultural sphere is focused on the following kinds of professional activity: management of concert-tour activity (manager of concert-entertaining programs); management of film and video rental (producer, manager of film and video activity); management of tourist activity (manager of culture tourism), television and radio management (manager of television and radio); public relations in culture (PR manager); management in the sphere of leisure industry (manager of cultural and entertaining programs); advertising management in culture sphere (advertising manager); management in the sphere of art (manager of the art gallery business); international cultural relations (manager of international cultural relations).

Specialty – culturology.

Specialization – management of international cultural relations.

Qualification – culture expert and manager.

After adaptation the specialist should be ready for the organizational, administrative, innovative, methodological, commercial, marketing, advertising, informational, financial and economic activities in the sphere of international cultural relations.

Such specialists will be mostly employed in the state governmental bodies of culture, the establishments of culture and art of different profiles, the educational establishments of different levels of the Ministry of Culture, research methodological centers for folk art, centers for national culture, tourist and excursion companies, health resorts, mass media, advertising agencies, public organizations and associations.

Specialty – socio cultural activity.

Specializations:

– organization and methodology of socio cultural activity in leisure and recreation establishments;

– organization and methodology of socio-cultural activity in theatrical and entertaining establishments;

-organization and methodology of socio cultural activity in health resort and tourist-sport establishments. Qualification – expert in socio-cultural activity, lecturer.

The specialist activity is aimed at socio-pedagogical, psychology-pedagogical, informational, organizational and methodological participation in the development of a person while producing, interpreting, preserving and distributing cultural values.

The specialist will work in the establishments of cultural and leisure sphere: clubs, Palaces of Culture, leisure centers, sport and tourist organizations, health resorts, folk art centers, centers for aesthetic education, out-of-school centers, concert, exhibition and film-entertaining organizations, town parks and zoos, on the positions of a methodist, cultural organizer, instructor, chief of the cultural and entertaining department. The graduates have an opportunity to work as teachers in secondary educational establishments of the sphere of culture and art.

Specialty – culturology.

Specialization – information systems in culture. Qualification – culture expert and manager.

Manager of the information office will be employed in the establishments of culture, research, educational and art work, which have the departments for processing and storing information (primarily in the sphere of culture). A manager of the information office should have good knowledge in humanitarian and exact sciences, information technologies, as well as be well-informed in the organization and management of information services.

Graduates with this specialization may work as heads of information departments, computer centers, computer centers for games, centers for distant learning at the establishments of culture (clubs, museums, theaters, concert halls, circuses, theatrical and entertaining establishments), in mass media editorial offices, marketing and advertising departments of the establishments of culture, on radio and television. They can also work as heads of automatization departments in libraries, museums, exhibitions, galleries, etc.

Specialty – culturology.

Specialization – world and national art culture. Qualification – culture expert and researcher, lecturer.

The specialist who is trained on specialty “World and national art culture” can gain employment with secondary schools, secondary specialized institutions, as well as in the universities, where an integrated course on history of national and world art culture is taught. The main function of the specialist in this area is to teach the subjects of aesthetic cycle and aesthetic education of young people during the process of training.

Specialty – art criticism.

Specialization – comparative art criticism.

Qualification – art critic, lecturer.

Only the graduates from secondary educational institutions in art sphere (musical secondary schools, colleges, art secondary schools, gymnasiums of this profile, colleges of arts) may apply for admission on the specialty “comparative art criticism”.

The specialist, which is trained in specialty “Art Criticism” and specialization “Comparative Art Criticism” will work in cultural establishments (museums, philharmonic societies, theatres, cinemas, culture centers, etc.) as well as in secondary and higher educational establishments, where integrated courses on history of arts and world art culture are taught.

The main function of such a specialist is the activity in the sphere of theoretical and practical art criticism. The related function of this specialist is the teaching of art criticism subjects.

Specialty – culturology.

Specialization – theory and history of culture. Qualification – culture expert and researcher, lecturer.

The specialist is intended mostly for work in educational establishments of different levels at the Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Education, government bodies of culture, culture establishments of different profiles, research-methodological centers of folk cultures, computer centers and laboratories of culture sphere, mass media, research establishments; public organizations and associations.

All these specializations are very popular among university entrants, so the annual high competition traditionally lets choose the most talented and creative youth, prepare them for productive work in the sphere of Belarusian culture.

Scholarship holders of the Presidential Fund, winners of creative contests and festivals study at the faculty. The training of undergraduates, postgraduates and doctoral candidates is organized on three specialties. The Councils for the Defense of candidate and doctoral theses have been set up. The educational process is provided by famous specialists and scholars in the spheres of culture, art and socio-cultural activity.

The bases for practical training are the best organizations and establishments of Belarus subordinate to the President Office: The Palace of the Republic, Minsk Concert Hall, National Belarusian Television and Radio Company, TV channels “STV” and “Mir”, National Art Museum, National Library and health resorts.

The results of the graduates’ placement are indicative of the great demand for professionals. The graduates from the faculty are demanded by different culture institutions: theatres and club establishments, centers for folk art and social protection, specialized and secondary schools, administrative authorities, concert and festival halls, art galleries.

Head of the Department –

The Department is a famous educational, research and methodological center in the sphere of culturology and philosophy.

The department trains graduates on the specialization “Theory and History of Culture” in specialty “Culturology” at the Faculty of Culturology and Socio-cultural Activity. Part-time Faculty  trains students of all faculties in the culturological directions, philosophy, ethics, aesthetics, sociology, economic theory, political science, religious studies, Belarusian state ideology, fundamentals of natural sciences, law subjects, labour safety, basics of medicine.

The staff of the department train masters, candidates and doctors of culturology in specialty 24.00.01 “Theory and History of Culture”. More than 20 candidate theses and two doctoral theses on the theory and history have been defended in recent years.

Highly qualified lecturers work at the department: rector of the university Yuri Pavlovich Bondar, vice-chancellor on research work Victor Robertovich Yazykovich, Marina Alexandrovna Mozheiko, Vladimir Fyodorovich Martynov, Igor Vyacheslavovich Morozov, Engels Konstantinovich Doroshevich, Hasan Sabirovich Gafarov, Alexander Ivanovich Smolik, Ruslan Vasilievich Grebennikov and others.

The staff of the department conduct research on two topics: “Belarusian Culture in the Context of Globalization: Cross-Cultural Interaction and the Problem of Preserving National Identity”, “Intercultural Communication in Today’s Global World”.

In recent years the staff of the department have prepared a number of research monographs, articles and materials for collections of articles, encyclopedic and other popular editions. The faculty, postgraduates and doctoral candidates of the department participate in many conferences, readings, scientific congresses and workshops.

The department maintains close contacts with scientific and educational establishments of the Republic. It does research, holds conferences and other events together with the Institute of Sociology, the Institute of Arts, Ethnography and Folklore of Belarus National Academy of Sciences, the Belarusian State University.

The head of the department – Doctor of Culturology, professor Aleksander Ivanovich Smolik.

The department of Culturology is an educational, scientific and methodological centre in culturology sphere. It trains highly-skilled professionals in such specialties as “Theory and history of culture” and “Culturology” at the Faculty of culturology and socio-cultural activity, as well as at Part-time Faculty. The department offers courses for all university faculties in culturology spheres, as well as in sociology, ideology of the Belarusian state and labour safety.

The Departments staff  train Masters, Candidates and Doctors of culturology in specialty 24.00.01 “Theory and history of culture” . More than 20 Candidate’s theses and two Doctoral dissertations on the theory and history of culture have been defended in recent years.

The Department staff actively conduct research work. They explore the topic “Cross-cultural communication in the modern global world”.

In recent years the department workers have written a great amount of scientific monographs, numerous articles, materials for collections of articles, encyclopedic and other popular editions. The staff, postgraduate students and doctoral candidates of the department take part in different conferences, readings, scientific congresses and seminars.

The department closely cooperates with the Belarusian and foreign research and educational institutions.  It does research, holds conferences and other events

together with the Institute of Sociology, the Institute of Arts, Ethnography and Folklore of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, the Belarusian State University.

The department of Belarusian and world artistic culture

The head of the department – Doctor of art history, professor Vera Pavlovna Prokoptsova.

The department trains art historians in two spheres: “world and domestic artistic culture” and “comparative art history”. Specialization “comparative art history” doesn’t have analogues in the Republic of Belarus. The students acquire a wide circle of knowledge. A number of disciplines are of exclusive character.

In recent years the staff of the department have published 5 monographs, 7 tutorials, about 20 curricula, more than 300 research papers and articles. The stuff and the students of the department take an active part in the work of the national and international scientific conferences.

The department admits students in MA and postgraduate courses in specialty “Theory and history of culture”. It maintains close links with Hwang Ho university in the town of Chenzhov (China). Master and postgraduate students from China study at the department.

In 1996 the department opened an MA course in specialty “Art” and a post-graduate course in specialty “Theory and history of culture”. The topics of masters’ and graduate researches cover history and theory of art culture in Belarus, some arts, comparative analysis of their interaction, the formation of genres, semiotics and semantics of works of art and others.

The head of the department – candidate of pedagogy, professor Ludmila Ivanovna Kozlovskaya.

The department is a famous educational, research and methodological center of our Republic in the sphere of socio-cultural activity.

The department trains students in such specialties as “Social pedagogy” and “Social work”, and since the academic year 2008-2009 – in the specialty “Socio-cultural activity” with the following specializations: “The organization and methods of social and cultural activities in cultural institutions” , “The organization and methods of social and cultural activities in theater and entertainment establishments, “The organization and methods of social and cultural activities in health resorts, tourist and sports institutions.”

The staff of the depatment trains master and post-graduate students in specialty 13.00.05 – Theory, methodology and organization of socio-cultural activity. About 20 candidate theses and one doctoral dissertation in the social and cultural activity have been defended in recent years.

Graduates from the department are qualified specialists, who manage cultural institutions of different levels, work as broadcasters, research workers of higher educational institutions of the Republic.

The department has such highly qualified specialists as: PhDs, Associate professors Tamara Pоlikarpоvna Biryukova, Valentina Filippovna Savina, Alina Anatolyevna Myshkovets, Olga Vladimirovna Rogachyova, Vera Grigoryevna Senko, Elena Viktorovna Ryabova. Assistant professors Nina Ivanovna Hood and Angelica Petrovna Boyko are well-known experts in the field of culture of Belarus.

The staff of the department actively conducts research: the topic “Development of the creative abilities of a person by means of socio-cultural activity” has been worked out. A great number of research papers, theses, materials of scientific conferences, materials for special journals have been prepared in recent years at the department.

The department maintains close contacts with research institutions of our country and the CIS countries.

There is a scientific school on the problems of socio-cultural activity and a scientific student circle “Search” at the department.

The department develops and implements innovative creative projects for various socio-cultural and educational institutions of the Republic and for the Belarusian TV. Under the guidance of the department staff socio-cultural projects for health improvement center “Youth”, Loshitsa estate and park complex, the House of Culture in Luchniki village of Minsk district and many others have been carried out. Among the latest creative works, which have been done by lecturers, master students and students of the department, are: “Mr. University”, a competition program “Miracle” for young faculty members, a number of festive concerts for the university staff. Every year students, master students and lecturers of the department develop and manage more than 100 cultural and recreational projects.

The students of the department take an active part in the International Game Festival “Children play – we play”. They are its laureates and diploma holders. The performances of the student theater “Street” takes place at various streets in Minsk. A volunteer student group “Elephant” helps orphanages, rehabilitation centers and war veterans to organize social and cultural activities. Moreover there is a student club “Semya” (Family) at the department.

Since its foundation in1993 the work of the Department of Management in social and cultural activities is aimed at training specialists for the institutions and cultural organizations which can manage contemporary cultural processes, have the necessary knowledge and skills, can influence the functioning of various socio-cultural institutions.

The training is done in two areas: management of social and cultural sphere and management of international cultural relations.
Future specialists are prepared for organizational, managerial, innovative, methodical, business, marketing, research, teaching, design and analysis, advertising and information, financial and economic activities in the area of culture.

According to the state standards the students receive the required level of socio-humanitarian, scientific, professional and special knowledge and practical skills, which allow them to conduct successfully an active professional activity after getting the appropriate qualification.
The students take an active part in various programmes at the university and abroad. Among them is a creative project “My circle” which is aimed at summarizing the professional knowledge and discovering personal creative potentials of the students of the department.
The department has good and close relationships with the educational institutions training managers in socio-cultural sphere in this and foreign countries. The department maintains international contacts with the Department of Management at St. Petersburg State University of Culture and Arts, Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts, Moscow State University of Culture and Arts.
After graduation, the specialists can work in the government cultural establishments, institutions of culture and art of different types, educational institutions of different levels of the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Education, preschool institutions, research and methodological centers of folk art, centers for national culture, computer centers and laboratories in the area of culture and arts, tourist and excursion companies, health resorts institutions, media and advertising agencies, research institutions, non-governmental organizations and associations.

The Department of Information Technologies in Culture

The head of the department – Candidate of physico-mathematical sciences, Associate Professor Peter Vladimirovich Glyakov.

The department was founded in 1995. It trains highly skilled professionals for the IT industry with an expertise in technological and socio-cultural processes. Together with the in-depth study of culturological disciplines and fundamentals of management the students get knowledge in the exact sciences and master computer technologies professionally.

The lecturers and students of the department take an active part in the Republican and International scientific and methodological conferences. The department supervises a separate section “Culture and Internet” at the Republican conference “Bynet – Internet in Belarus”.

The graduates of the department work in the establishments of culture and art of the Republic of Belarus. Among them are: E. Lashkovsky, TV announcer and anchorman at ONT TV channel, V. Parahnevich, head of the production at the enterprise “Liteiny dvor”, E. Zelsky, senior specialist at security systems and many others.
